Dear Parents...
As the parent of a wrestler, you are about to embark on a great journey. This sport is very demanding, but the rewards are worth every ounce of effort. Your child will gain self-confidence, pride in self and in community, a great work ethic, perseverance, commitment, dedication, strength, fitness, and sportsmanship. They will learn all of the tools required to be successful in any aspect of life through the sport of wrestling. All of our coaches regard the time we spent in wrestling as one of the most important pieces in our development from youth to adult, and we know the experience will be the same for your child.

WHAT MAKES WRESTLING DIFFERENT?
At the Junior High level most of our events are tournaments, and as such, every athlete will wrestle from 2-4 matches at each event. There are no politics when it comes to "playing time". Each athlete gets the same amount of participation, we do not decide who goes in, and when.
Once your child gets to Spaulding, competition will be a combination of tournaments and meets. Meets are competitions where two teams field their best athletes in each weight class and battle it out one weight class at a time. Team points are scored along the way and vary with the margin of victory. At the end, one team emerges as the winner.
Varsity athletes at the high school level are determined through wrestle offs. Each athlete in a particular weight class must beat everyone else in the weight class, one on one to secure their varsity spot. No politics, no coaching influence, and no name recognition. The athletes earn their spots.
